Understanding the condition
Polyps are growths on the lining of the colon or rectum. Many are benign, but some types can develop into cancer. A polyp’s size, type and microscopic features help determine its significance.
What the evaluation looks for
Colonoscopy allows inspection and removal or sampling. Keep the colonoscopy report and the pathology report; the appearance alone does not establish the final diagnosis.
How treatment is chosen
Many polyps can be removed endoscopically. Large or difficult lesions may need advanced endoscopic treatment or surgery. Follow-up intervals depend on the findings, completeness of removal and quality of the examination, rather than a universal schedule.

- When should my next colonoscopy occur, and why?
When to seek help promptly
After removal, significant bleeding, fever or severe abdominal pain requires prompt contact with the treating team or emergency evaluation.
